Colonel (later Sir Robert) Martin unveiled the Kirby Muxloe War Memorial gates in 1923. Mr Joseph Morcom, a sculptor and stone mason who had lived in Kirby since 1910, worked the lettering. John Russell, whose eldest son was killed in action in 1918, laid out garden of remembrance.

The stone and garden of remembrance were unveiled in October 1933 by Colonel John Brown, National chairman of the British Legion.

The memorial garden was redesigned by the Parish Council in 1995 when the ladies' section of the Royal British Legion planted 1,000 bulbs. The original brass plaques are now located in Kirby Muxloe cemetery.
In 2022, the Parish Council refurbished the War Memorial Gates and Stone, which were rededicated by the Bishop of Loughborough.
